Last Wednesday, VSEDC commemorated the grand opening of South LA’s first Women’s Business Center (WBC). Powered by Wells Fargo, the center, the third in Los Angeles and 20th statewide, promises tailored resources, specialized programs and workshops, and mentorship for the next wave of pioneers.

Notable speakers underscored the WBC‘s significance in instigating business growth. Tulani Watkins, the inaugural Director of the WBC, shared the center’s mission and vision. Jack Orlee from Wells Fargo, the title sponsor, emphasized the crucial role of financial institutions in supporting local businesses.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass expressed, “I have worked with Vermont Slauson Economic Development Corporation for years and have seen firsthand the positive impact the organization is making for small businesses and their contributions to the South Los Angeles community.”

SBA Administrator Isabella Guzman also celebrated the launch, recognizing the critical support the WBC will provide to small businesses.

Heartfelt testimonials from women business owners showcased the effects of VSEDC assistance. Chef Deljah Dickson of Art Delectables highlighted how a CDFI loan from VSEDC fueled her business’s growth. Melissa Hibbert of Brain Trust Founders Studio reflected on her success and VSEDC’s pivotal role.

Opening this WBC marks a new era for South LA, where women-owned businesses can thrive and reach their full potential. It speaks to the potential of collaboration, community, and stubborn confidence in the entrepreneurial heart of women. VSEDC COO Libby Williams declared, “Administering the South LA WBC significantly improves our capability to help fledgling women businesses grow and thrive.”
