On November 7, 2017, the Construction Inspector (CI) position is scheduled to open for filing with the City of Los Angeles; an additional filing date is February 6, 2018. A training workshop by the City of Los Angeles’ Bureau of Contract Administration is scheduled for Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at 3:00 p.m., to assist with the application process and provide tips on what candidates need to do to succeed. The attached Classification Specifications lists the variety of duties of the CI. The CI Bulletin outlines the qualifications required. The CI Career Ladder, developed by the Personnel Department, is also included to give you an idea of future career opportunities.
The Public Works Inspectors’ Manual is the handbook used by our CIs. It gives examples of the work of the CI, what CIs need to know and characteristics of a successful CI; they include, yet not limited to:
- Ensure contractor compliance to the contract;
- Confidently enforce a variety of codes and standards
- Complete daily reports;
- Work, with initiative, independently and as a team member; and
- Proficient technical skills.
